"By this second marriage Carl Feller had seven children: Emil, Hugo, Olfen, Oswald, Alice (Mrs. John Wartenbach), Cornelia (Mrs. Arthur Wartenbach), and Martina. Of these, two are still living: Oswald of Blanco, Texas, age eighty-six and Alice of Mason, Texas, age eighty-five."

      * Looked up for me by Wanda Qualls
    • After looking up the Pioneers in God's Hills reference, Wanda also indicated:

"I also checked my database and came up with Lillie A. Wartenbach who was born Jun 21 1899 in Mason, Mason County, Texas and married Charles Henry Doell on Feb 26 1927 in Mason, Mason County, Texas. Lillie died Sep 14 1992 in Gillespie County, Texas and was buried in the Crosby Cemetery in Mason County, Texas. I have the Mason County Website http://www.rootsweb.com/~txmason/index.html and used the search engine which came up with a lot of Wartenbach names. The 1880 Mason County, Texas census shows .. (the Charles Wartenbach family)."

      Indians Wound Negro Girl

During 1873, a Negro girl named Emmak, about eleven years old, was in a tree about seventy-five yards from the Jno. Gammel ranch house, which was about fifteen miles southwest of Mason. The girl either fell, jumped or was knocked out of the tree and when she hit the ground started toward the house but was shot by an Indian with a large caliber rifle. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wartenbach were living at the ranch at the time, but Mr. Wartenbach was away.

Note: Author interviewed Charles Wartenbach, himself.

The above story is from the book, The West Texas Frontier, by Joseph Carroll McConnell.
