Email exchange with V. Kruschwitz, Aug 2001:

Here are a few notes I took on the Martin and Haygood families (remember Mary Alice Martin married James Haygood) from Mt. Sylvan's minutes:

During the revival meeting in July 1890, Jodie and Rosie Martin and M. A. Haygood were received by letter. Z. M. Martin was received by voucher. Nora and Monroe Martin were received by baptism.

    In the August 1890 minutes:
"4. By motion a letter was read from Bro. W. J. Mosley of Covington Co. Ala. in behalf of Bro. Z. M. Martin, stating that the church to which he formerly belonged had been lettered out and moved of (sic) and that there was no chance to hold any conference to grant him a letter asking the church at this place to receive Bro. Martin by recomendation (sic) or by voucher.
    5. Bro. Martin was received as an active deacon."

    In the September 1890 minutes:
    A. M. Martin was appointed a messenger to the association. (I have a transcription of the minutes, not the originals. It should definitely be Z.
    M. Martin).

    February 1891
    Letter granted to sister Haygood.

(In the membership listing started about 1886 there is a Sister Haygood L., R. (Letter, Restored) and a J. Haygood (no abbreviation). M. A. Haygood joined in July 1890. I don't see J. Haygood joining. There are two other membership listings, one at the end of minute book one in 1905, which lists J A, Allie, Mamie, Gussie and Fletcher Haygood as members. The listing at the beginning of the new book lists:
    J. A. Haygood, received by letter, dismissed July 11, 1908
Allie Haygood, received by letter, dismissed July 11, 1908
Flectecher (sic) Haygood, received by ex. July 1902, dismissed July 11, 1908
Alford Haygood, received by ex. Aug. 1903, dismissed July 11, 1908)

    March 1891
"2. Bro. J. M. Martin made acknowlegements (sic) to the church." (This may be Z. M. Martin. I see no J. M. Martin in the membership listing, but it is not very organized.)

    August 1891
"1. A committee of five was appointed Brethren J. M. Martin, Henry Wilbanks, Billie Barron, A. V. Hitt, and John Pool to confer with Sister Minnie DeLay for her ungodly walk as a christian."

    September 1891
    Bro. Martin chosen Mod. Pro.

    January 1892
During the revival meeting Nannie Martin was received by baptism.
